Children at RS Events
For the purposes of this document, "children" refers only to people younger than 18 years old since anyone who is a legal adult can become a Guest, Friend or Member on their own. "Guardian" refers to any adult who is a permanent legal guardian of a child, since not all guardians are parents and not all parents are guardians.
1) Guardians are solely responsible for the safety, behavior, and well-being of their children at Rhythm Society Events. The Rhythm Society neither condones nor forbids guardians from bringing their children. We recognize that it is up to each individual to decide what is best for their child and to take responsibility for their child's safety as well as our collective container.
2) At ANDCs (excluding campouts), only Members can bring their children.
3) At the Retreat and Campout, only Members and Friends can bring their children.
4) At FNGs, Supperclubs, etc., Members, Friends, and Guests can bring their children.
5) In order to maintain a safer container for children, we all need to abide by the community norms that we have established and reevaluated many times. We encourage everyone at our events to experience Spirit in the forms that it manifests itself to them. They must, however, be mindful of the impact their behavior could have on the safety of our container, whether or not children are present. We actively discourage careless acts involving intoxication and sexualized behavior, and we urge the community as a whole to be mindful of the impact such acts could have. Event participants will be expected to observe these boundaries, even when no children are present.
6) Any minor present at an RS event must be sponsored by and accompanied by their guardian. Guardians must be alert and clearheaded, and minors must be under their supervision at all times.
7) These guidelines will be in place for a period of two years (until April 1, 2013). After that time, any community group or individual will be welcome to propose an amendment or revision to the guidelines.
8) If a team wishes to propose an event that departs from these guidelines (for example, an adults-only event, or a daytime event to which kids from outside the community would be invited), they are welcome to do so, and will need specific approval from the Council. As always, the Council will evaluate proposals based on their sense of community needs and expectations. Though adults-only and kid-friendly events may not meet the needs and expectations of all community members (and may cause upset for some individuals), the viability of the RS depends upon unity, not unanimity.
